On May 8, 2025, an extended meeting was held at the Department of Cybersecurity of the State Non-Profit Enterprise “State University ”Kyiv Aviation Institute" (KAI), during which a public presentation of the results of the dissertation research of 4th-year student Natalia Petlyak took place.
The topic of the dissertation is “Models and Methods for Detecting Anomalous Traffic in Information and Communication Systems.”
The work is submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the field of knowledge 12 “Information Technologies,” specialty 125 “Cybersecurity.”
Scientific supervisors: Sergey Lazarenko, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Professor of the Department of Technical Information Protection, Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering, Kyiv Aviation Institute; Yuri Klyots, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Cybersecurity, Kharkiv National University.
In her report, Natalia Petlyak presented: a formalized model for detecting abnormal traffic; original methods for improving the accuracy of attack detection; the results of experimental testing of models on real and simulated data sets; practical recommendations for implementing the developed methods in ICS protection tools.
During the discussion, members of the department and invited experts gave positive feedback on the relevance of the topic, the theoretical novelty, and the practical significance of the results. The applicant was also given recommendations for further improvement of the research before its submission to the specialized academic council.
The event was held in the format of an online conference, which provided an opportunity for a wide range of participants from other institutions to join.
