On October 2, 2024, the Department of Cyber Security celebrated its thirty-fifth anniversary. On the occasion of the anniversary, a hackathon on cyber security and information protection was initiated by the staff of the department on the basis of the Scientific and Educational Cyber Security Center of KhNU.
The first hackathon lasted 2 days (October 2-3) and was held in the Capture The Flag (CTF) format.
The participants were offered tasks from various areas of professional activity:
• Cryptography and cryptanalysis
• Steganography
• Digital forensics
• Network security
• Logic and experiment, etc
The peculiarity of the hackathon was the involvement of an initiative group of students in the development of tasks and organization of the event, which made it as close as possible to the interests of the participants, who became education seekers of all courses of the bachelor's and master's educational program of the 125th specialty. The variety of tasks and the spirit of CTF team competition captivated the teams.
The prize-winning teams of the hackathon were determined in the slow but friendly competition:
- 1st place – 4th year team consisting of Nataliya KUPCHIK, Pavlo BILOUS, Denys VISHNEVSKY, Vladyslav ZAGREBELNY and Maryan NIKOLAYCHUK
- 2nd place – collective team of 2-4 courses consisting of Andrii SOROKOVSKY, Maria GARTRAMF, Anastasia SKALSKA, Mykola OLIYNYK and Maksym BAGRIY
- 3rd place – team of KBs-22-1 group consisting of Rostislav DEYCHUK, Roman ZEYLYK and Vladyslav SAFONOV
Rector of Khmelnytskyi National University Serhii MATYUK gave a welcome speech at the conclusion of the hackathon, who awarded the winners with diplomas and valuable prizes.
In the final part of the event, Volodymyr ANIKIN, assistant of the cyber security department, with the support of a group of task developers, conducted a detailed analysis and talked about their features and solution options.
All participants of the competition, the organizing committee and the jury received pleasant emotions from the event and hackathon certificates.
The staff of the department thanks all the participants of the hackathon for confirming the high level of professional knowledge and the will to win, and expresses special thanks to the 3rd year students Roman KOROBKO and Dmytro BOYTSUN for their active participation in the preparation and holding of the competition.
We believe in great prospects and the future of the hackathon on cyber security and information protection of KhNU.
