On October 12, 2025, the All-Ukrainian Student Programming Olympiad took place. This intellectual competition, organized by the Algotester platform in collaboration with Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, aims to develop logical thinking, algorithmic culture, and teamwork skills among students. The event brought together talented young programmers from higher education institutions in Ukraine. 630 teams competed in solving complex practical and theoretical problems in computer science and algorithms. The Department of Cybersecurity at Khmelnytsky National University took an active part in the Olympiad. Students majoring in Cybersecurity and Information Protection underwent thorough, innovative training under the guidance of creative mentors—faculty members of the department—which made it possible to organize 12 teams to participate in the Olympiad. Holding the competition in a team programming format allowed students not only to demonstrate their technical skills, but also to practice teamwork and strategic thinking – critically important competencies for future cybersecurity specialists.
The first, remote stage began on October 11 with a trial round, and on October 12 at 10:00 a.m., the main round began, which lasted until 3:00 p.m. In the first stage, all students majoring in Cybersecurity and Information Protection demonstrated a high level of knowledge and success. The team "KhmNU_518-team" (coach Yurii Klots) took the highest place, 1st in the Khmelnytsky region, and 12th among teams in Ukraine. The team members are 2nd-year students Denys Stadnik (team captain), Mykola Kostyuk, and Volodymyr Oliinyk.
The participation of students majoring in Cybersecurity and Information Protection in such competitions is particularly important. Programming competitions develop algorithmic thinking, quick decision-making, and the ability to work under time pressure—qualities that are fundamental to working in the field of information security. "Programming is the foundation of cybersecurity. The better our students understand algorithms and data structures, the more effectively they will be able to protect information systems in the future," say the department's teachers.
Based on the results of the first stage, the best teams will have the opportunity to continue competing in the next stages of the Olympiad.
Khmelnytsky National University supports the initiative of students to participate in national competitions, as this contributes to improving the level of training of future IT specialists and cyber security experts, which our country is in dire need of.
We wish our students success and high results in the competition!
