Open lesson on technical protection of information from stakeholders from the State Special Communications Service of Ukraine

On September 26, 2024, with the assistance of the State Special Communications Service of Ukraine, an open lesson for higher education students of the Department of Cybersecurity on “Methods and means of identifying sources of potential information leakage through technical channels” was held by practitioners of the special units of the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine. The lesson was attended by a bachelor of 3-4 years of study majoring in Cybersecurity and a master in Cybersecurity and Information Protection.

During the class, students had the opportunity to get acquainted with the operation of specialized equipment for detecting planted devices and information leakage channels, including portable broadband receiver ANDRE (Advanced Near-field Detection Receiver), which detects known, unknown, illegal, destructive or interfering transmissions, near-field radio frequency and infrared transmitters, visible light, carrier current and other types of transmissions; ORION non-linear connection detector, designed to detect and locate hidden cameras, microphones and other electronic devices regardless of the current state of the secret surveillance devices (whether the device is on or off) and the presence of any radiation from them; devices for detecting and blocking information leakage channels, other equipment and software and hardware of CCTV, etc. Practitioners told the students about the principles and rules of using specialized equipment, demonstrating its operation and supporting the theoretical and practical part of the material with stories from their own experience.

The students had the opportunity to search for embedded devices and information leakage channels using the equipment provided by the specialists of the special TZI units.
