Cybersecurity is a modern speciality at the peak of relevance and popularity.
Why the speciality 125 - Cybersecurity and Information Protection?
Most information about the activities and values of people, companies, institutions, organizations, and entire states is transmitted and stored electronically. The value of this information is fully realized only by those who want to use it for their benefit. Therefore, there are always enough people interested in possessing other people's data and enriching themselves at their expense through various schemes. Threats of loss of valuable and confidential information at multiple levels necessitate the organization of its protection, and employers are becoming increasingly aware of this every day.
Today, millions of specialists can develop and operate software, computer systems and networks, cloud technologies, and the Internet of Things, but only a few can make them genuinely secure and safe.
According to Cisco's research, cybersecurity is now critically important, and there is a shortage of specialists, so the demand for cybersecurity specialists worldwide is growing three times faster than for IT specialists. This leads to the support of the development of the speciality in our country by international organizations and high requirements for the training of cybersecurity specialists, which, on the one hand, provides excellent opportunities for employment and decent wages.

Additional learning opportunities
The fourth part of the study time of the educational program is allocated to the formation of an individual educational trajectory, which involves the student's choice of disciplines according to their preferences. You can choose a trajectory with in-depth study:
- programming languages and technologies (C, C++, C#, HTML, CSS, PHP, Java, Python, AspNet, Core MVC, MS SQL Server, etc);
- information security technologies (malware analysis, Internet of Things security, digital forensics, ethical hacking, etc.);
- courses with a focus on employer needs (banking security, critical infrastructure security, etc.);
- foreign languages, etc.
Students can study at the Cisco Network Academy and receive an international certificate in specialized cybersecurity courses and other IT courses. Classes at the academy are taught by teachers of the cybersecurity department who are certified Cisco Academy instructors. Training at the Cisco Academy is officially counted as completing sections of academic disciplines. For more information, please follow the link (http://cisco.khmnu.edu.ua/).
Ensuring the educational process
In 2021, the graduating department passed the accreditation of the educational program Cybersecurity (Bachelor's degree), during which experts from the National Agency for Higher Education Quality Assurance confirmed the compliance of the program itself, available laboratories, software, technical methodological support, staff, etc. with the requirements for ensuring a high level of education in the speciality Cybersecurity.
The classroom fund of the Department of Cybersecurity and the University is used for classes:
- computer classes with modern hardware and software;
- specialized laboratories of the cybersecurity department;
- large lecture halls and classrooms for lectures and workshops.
All the materials necessary for studying (syllabi, lecture notes/presentations, teaching materials and assignments for various classes, etc.) are available to students in the university's virtual modular environment; transparent student progress monitoring is provided in the Electronic University system.
The materials of the disciplines are constantly updated and actualized by the staff of the department, taking into account the latest achievements in the field of cybersecurity, professional cooperation with enterprises, institutions and organizations in the region, own and collective research, participation of teachers and students in international projects: the program “Development of educational materials for Ukrainian universities” with the support of CRDF Global (US Civilian Research and Development Foundation); USA ID project “Cybersecurity of Critical Infrastructure”; Jean Monnet module “Integration of the
All of this creates favourable conditions for studying in the speciality and compliance of the acquired knowledge with the requirements of the best practices of the EU and the world.
Additional information
All non-resident students are provided with a dormitory.
We facilitate the transfer of privileged students from contract to state-funded education.
The department has a student design bureau and a cyber training ground for those wanting to research. Applicants for education in the speciality can participate in student competitions, work competitions, training, hackathons, and research projects from the regional to the international level. As a result of participation in such projects, a student's image as a specialist is formed during their studies, and they receive job offers.
