In the period from January 30 to March 10, 2023, teachers of the Department of Cybersecurity Volodymyr Dzhulii, Maria Kapustian, Ihor Mulyar, Yurii Khmelnytskyi and Viktor Cheshun underwent an international internship at the University of Bielsko-Biala (Bielsko-Biala, Poland) as part of a program of research cooperation between universities in the field of cybersecurity under a cooperation agreement between KhNU and the University of Bielsko-Biala.
The purpose of the internship is to strengthen and improve the internationalization component of the department and to popularize and develop academic mobility programs (Double Diploma programs, etc.), to get acquainted with the experience of introducing new forms of organization and methods of education into the educational process, to expand the possibilities of using tools for training bachelors and masters in the speciality “Cybersecurity and Information Protection” in modern education.
The training was based on individual programs, which allowed the teachers to master various aspects and technologies in the field of cybersecurity and information protection aspects that best fit their professional interests and educational courses and integrate the acquired knowledge and experience into the relevant courses.
Associate Professor of the Department of Cybersecurity, Candidate of Technical Sciences Volodymyr Dzhulii, completed an internship under the "Algorithms and Software for Information Protection" program. According to the internship results, the lecture materials for the course "Programming and Algorithmization Technologies" (OPP 125-Cybersecurity of the bachelor's level, educational component of professional training) were updated. New laboratory works were delivered: "Cryptography on elliptic curves. Cryptosystems based on elliptic curves", 'Program protection by counteracting dynamic methods of protection removal', 'Analysis of program code for possible threats'. The elective course "Programming Information Security Algorithms" has also been updated.
Senior Lecturer at the Department of Cybersecurity, Ph. Mulyar Ihor Volodymyrovych completed an internship under the program "Complex Information Security Systems", the results of which were used to update the content of lectures on the course "Complex Information Security Systems: design, implementation, support" (OPP 125-Cybersecurity of the bachelor's level, educational component of professional training) and reorganize the laboratory work "Analysis of the structure of the object of protection and assessment of possible threats, vulnerabilities and destabilizing factors" from the same course, as well as to update lectures and formulate new Some of the materials and practices mastered during the internship were used in the department's disciplines "Algorithms and Data Structures in Security Systems", "Web Resource Protection", "Steganography and Computer Graphics".
Senior Lecturer of the Department of Cybersecurity, Ph. Yurii Khmelnytskyi completed an internship under the program “Information Protection in Computer system” which allowed him to update and actualize the course “Information Protection in Computer Systems” based on European practices in lecture materials and through the formulation of laboratory works “Software implementation of basic cryptographic methods of information protection”, “Software implementation of RSA digital signature”, ‘Software implementation of the symmetric encryption algorithm’, ‘Software implementation of Hash functions’.
Associate Professors of the Department of Cybersecurity, Candidate of Technical Sciences Maria Kapustian and Candidate of Technical Sciences Viktor Cheshun completed an internship under the program "Design, modelling and Maintenance of Information Security Systems". According to the results of the internship, the lectures on the course "Design and maintenance of information security systems" (OPP 125-Cybersecurity of the master's level, educational component of professional training) were updated and adapted to EU standards and a series of interrelated practical research laboratory works "Design of an authentication system based on image recognition", "Design of a backup data centre", "Design of an access control and management system" were delivered.
Viktor Cheshun used the knowledge and skills gained during the internship in the course "Modeling and Assessment of the Security of Systems and Means of Cyber Defense" (OPP 125-Cybersecurity of the Master's Degree, the educational component of professional training), which allowed him to update the lecture materials and set up a laboratory work "Assessment of the Effectiveness of Systems and Means of Cyber Defense."
The internship results also became relevant for Maria Kapustian to update and improve the Cryptology course (OPP 123-Computer Engineering, Bachelor's Degree, educational component of professional training) and the elective discipline Information Security Standards and Tools based on European practices.
The knowledge, skills and experience gained by the teachers of the Department of Cybersecurity have become highly relevant in improving the quality of organization and adaptation to EU requirements of the educational process in bachelor's and master's degree programs in the speciality 125 "Cybersecurity and Information Protection". As a reminder of the intensive internship and advanced training course, the teachers were pleasantly tired, grateful to the instructors from the University of Belsko-Biala, and impressed with the results and certificates.
