Open lecture by stakeholders from the Cyberpolice Department on “Combating Online Fraud”

On November 22, 2023, Khmelnytsky National University hosted an open lecture on “Countering Online Fraud” by stakeholders from the Cyber Police Department at the Department of Cyber Security.

The lecture was delivered by Ruslan Danyliuk, Senior Inspector of the Cybercrime Unit in Khmelnytskyi Region of the Cyber Police Department of the National Police of Ukraine.

Online fraud is a serious challenge in the digital world, as fraudsters are improving their methods and attacks targeting users, companies and organizations. One of the threats is phishing attacks, where attackers use a specific method to disable users and try to obtain sensitive information such as passwords or bank details.

Another common scheme is fraudulent emails, which use social engineering to trick people or companies into performing actions that could lead to financial losses or leakage of confidential information.

Combating online fraud requires an integrated approach that takes into account technical, educational and legal aspects. In terms of technical measures, it is important to use up-to-date antivirus programs, firewalls and phishing detection systems. In addition, implementing two-step authentication mechanisms and keeping software up-to-date can reduce vulnerabilities.
The first-year students were also shown the basic functionality of the MRIYA ecosystem, which combines the main activities of the Cyber Police Department and allows Ukrainian citizens to join the fight against the occupiers in the information space.

Students and teachers of the Department of Cybersecurity took an active part in the discussion of the lecture's issues.

We thank Ruslan Danyliuk for his interesting lecture!
