Webinar: “Cybersecurity in video surveillance and access control systems: a problem or an opportunity?”

At the beginning of 2024, a new series of webinars on sectoral cybersecurity capabilities was launched by the Usaid Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity Project. The first event involved interacting cybersecurity systems with technical security systems such as video surveillance and access control. Traditionally, students and teachers of the Department of Cybersecurity joined this webinar.

The speaker at the meeting was Alyona Shvetsova, Director of Security Systems at Softprom Ukraine. Ms. Shvetsova has more than twenty years of experience in the security industry and is considered an internationally recognized expert in video surveillance and analytics. In addition, she is an active author in professional publications related to these issues.

During the meeting, Ms Alyona analyzed real-life cases, focusing on such aspects as the actions of criminals targeting surveillance cameras, the impact of software applications on the video surveillance system, and the violation of the integrity of video data during its export. The speaker also analyzed the international experience of introducing bans on “certain brands” of equipment and software manufacturers for video surveillance systems, considering the situation in Ukraine and the current threats associated with using unsafe equipment.

At the end of the meeting, the webinar participants received valuable recommendations that will help create a comprehensive approach to solving information security problems and anticipating and preventing risks associated with the leakage of important information. They also had the opportunity to get answers to their questions.
